The Cumbria Opera Group are delighted to announce our Season for 2022 and 2023
From outdoor Shakespearean opera to Messiah, and from a staged performance of Bach's St John Passion to another week-long Festival, we hope to be very busy in the next couple of years. Visit our support us page to see how you can be involved.

24th & 25th June 2022
A Night at the Opera
Our season opens in Penrith for a gala concert of operatic highlights. Three soloists take us through the best bits of opera, in an event that will be repeated at the Sedbergh Festival the following evening.

9th & 10th July 2022
Outdoor Opera
Battlebarrow House Gardens (Appleby) play host to two afternoons of Shakespeare, Arthur Ransome, and opera highlights as the Cumbria Opera Group present family-friendly afternoons of opera. Swallows and Armenians - Karen Babayan's reimagining of Ransome's ever-popular story - receives a musical twist, while a one-person performance of Ariel - Shakespeare's most musical character - comes to Appleby for the weekend. A selection of opera highlights complete the afternoons, performed by stars from the critically-praised Cumbria Opera Festival 2021.

Handel's Messiah
St Andrew's Church, Penrith
The Consort of the Cumbria Opera Group return to St Andrew's, Penrith, for a performance of Handel's most beloved oratorio.

Bach's St John Passion
Victoria Hall, Grange-over-Sands
Brought to life in a new, provocative staging, this performance of Bach's passiontide masterpiece promises to be a thought-provoking experience.

Cumbria Opera Festival 2023 Launch Night
St Andrew's Church, Penrith
Soloists from the upcoming Cumbria Opera Festival 2023 perform highlights from the Opera repertory, interspersed with exclusive previews of the Festival.

Cumbria Opera Festival 2023
The sequel to our inaugural Opera Festival in September 2021, this will be another week of operas, recitals, masterclasses, and workshops throughout Cumbria.
